FINNISH

I was initiated into Finnish (anglophone) rock and metal  music in 2003. At some point, one of my favourite artists, Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto from Charon, inspired by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, formed a new band called Harmaja and started singing in Finnish. When I listened to his song Sydäntalvella [in the heart of the winter] in May 2010, I took the decision to start learning Finnish. Sydäntalvella remains one of my favourite songs ever.

In October 2010, I started my Finnish lessons in Athens with Tarja M.V. I truly thank her for initiating me into Finnish language, culture and mentality. In 2013-2014 I was a visiting doctoral researcher at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland so I continued my studies in Finnish there and within the proper socio-cultural context. In June 2014, I received Suomen Kielen Yleinen Kielitutkinto (Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency). I try practising the language whenever Ι can. Suomi on todella kaunis kieli ;-)
